Congratulations, on your decision to visit Maui also known as “The Valley Isle!” All of the islands in the state of Hawaii are exceptionally beautiful, and yet each island has their own personality. Maui is exactly what people envision when they imagine a trip to the Hawaiian Islands: quiet, minimal traffic, beautiful beaches, with the most amazing people. It’s not that the other islands don’t possess the same things, it is just more balanced on Maui. In this short read I will provide you with:
- a quick breakdown of the island,
- a few suggested places to visit, food and entertainment
- an online interaction that will assist in developing and maintaining the Maui Mindset (as a couple or at work)
A Quick Breakdown of the Island
Prior to coming to Maui everyone must register on the State of Hawaii Safe Travels website. As requirements do change periodically I would recommend that you visit the County of Maui’s website to get up to date answers to most questions. Maui is 48 miles long and 26 miles wide. Looking at a map of Maui there are generally six geographic areas: West Maui and South Maui (where most of the condo’s and hotel’s are), Central Maui, North Shore, East Maui and Upcountry. Here is a map of the main roads and highways on Maui.
Like all major vacation destinations flyers and advertisements for things to do and places to go immediately greet you at the airport. I am going to stay away from suggesting the obvious (Haleakala, Road to Hana, etc.). The places that I will list below has a minimal cost (if any) and will definitely be a highlight to your Maui visit.
A Few Suggested Places to Visit, Food and Entertainment
Location (Click to visit the link) Why Visit/Comments

Papawai Scenic Lookout West Maui Beautiful Ocean View.

Wailea Oceanfront Boardwalk Trail South Maui A beautiful walk at sunset.
(No cost) Paved walking trail.
La Perouse Bay South- Upcountry Lava rock and may see goats walking under the trees. (No cost) A slight challenge walking. A hike with shade overhead.
Ali’I Kula Lavender Farm Upcountry Amazing View of Maui. Beautiful flowers. ($3.00 per person) Uneven surfaces. Bring something to eat and enjoy the view. Only open on Friday-Sunday.
Food
As far as places to eat I would encourage you to try our food trucks around the island. The food trucks on Maui cover a wide variety of cuisine and are located all around the island. Hawaii is known for a type of grilled meat called Huli-Huli (usually chicken and ribs) and I am a firm believer that everyone should at least try it once before they leave.
Entertainment
Live music is abundant and occurs nightly all across the island. Please remember to tip the musicians if you enjoyed their tunes. I would also recommend going to a Luau as it is always a good time.
There is a world class venue on Maui called the Maui Arts & Cultural Center (MACC) that hosts a diverse mix of artists and genres – dance, Hawaiian artforms, rock, chamber music, jazz, lectures, theater, and works that blur boundaries.
* NOTE: Mauitimes is a free publication on that provides up to date activities and events in and around Maui.
The Maui Mindset
Fortunately, there is a way to carry on life after a visit to Maui and still maintain the Maui Mindset. I offer it in two separate free online Zoom interactions that last approximately 45-minutes.
Known as “The Garden Isle,” Maui is the place where individuals from all over the world visit to intentionally relax, renew, and reconnect. Ask yourself: “How can I possibly maintain this tremendous feeling for as long as possible?" This Maui Mindset online event will show you how!
The single best question for leaders within an organization is: “How can I create a more productive environment for my team by using the Maui Mindset?” Note: It focuses on improving communication at the person-to-person level.
Applying these principles with your partner/co-worker will activate the "Maui Mindset" even when you are back in your hometown. Take your time leaving but hurry back, because the Maui vibe is unparalleled.
