As I sit here right now listening to CreatiVets, The Man I Left Behind (Featuring Heath Sanders), a song that most everyone can relate to and service members even more so (Do yourself a favor and listen to it now). I spent 24 years in (although some may disagree) the greatest military in the world. I have lived in seven different countries, five different states and been in three different war zones. It saddens me to think that I should feel the need to even write something like this. Anyway, here goes…
So, it goes like this, I was sitting in the living room watching the news and feeling like I should say something. All news sources do a really good job of triggering emotions to captivate viewer’s attention and sell their commercial spots in between tragedies. I love my OUR country too much to stand back and watch it any further divided. I believe in my heart-of-hearts that there are more good people in this great county than not so good people. This message is for all of the good people out there.
America has always been united as a nation. Historically, America has been most united during times when other nations require our attention. Have we ever had differences? Absolutely we have had differences over the ages, but history also tells us that we have always been able to put our differences aside and come together to address common issues. The good people will always rise to the occasion.
A quick layout of military wartime operations is that it is a 24 hour around the clock operation. There are usually two shifts to work: a dayshift and a night shift. Personally, speaking when it was my turn to stand watch, I stood watch for everyone. Likewise, I honestly believe that the majority of the military community did as well. I don’t understand how there could ever be any service member that intend on serving “their people” only.
I served every single one of our Presidents (from Reagan to Obama) and I served with the belief that everyone has an equal voice no matter how different they were from me. I am happy to report to those that are reading this who may have a limited understanding of the military… the majority of military members, if necessary, would be willing to die for any American to protect their rights and freedoms. I trained beside and worked with people of all races, religions, national origins, colors, and sexual orientations. You name it. I believe being apolitical was the greatest contributing factor to creating, establishing, and maintaining the optimum working environment. I would never tell anyone what to think. All I do ask is that you do take the time to think. Hope springs eternal with the next song on my play list, Michael Franti & Spearhead is, Good Day for a Good Day.
If you enjoyed this blog, please share on social media, with friends, etc. because we have to get the word out. Let all of the good people (wherever you are across America) communicate with one another and come back together.
